Ogier sponsored a prize at the Young Enterprise Scheme Awards at the Beau Sejour Centre, Guernsey, on Thursday 30th April 2009.
Young Enterprise is a national education charity founded in the UK in 1963 and operated in Guernsey since 1982. It’s purpose is to forge links between schools and industry, and its mission is to inspire and equip young people to learn and succeed through enterprise.
Local students from various island schools took part in the scheme this year. They were divided into small groups which then form a company under the guidance of volunteer mentors. Each company appoints a board of directors and sets out to source or design a product to sell or provide a service to generate income for their company. The scheme provides the participants with experience of a wide range of skills required to run a successful business, with the added bonus of being able to donate the final proceeds of their endeavours to a charity of their choice.
Ogier sponsored the “Best Company Report” Award, with the winning report being chosen by Marcus Leese, partner of Ogier Guernsey, who was on stage at the awards ceremony to announce the winning company - Vibe.
Marcus commented “The standard of the company reports produced by the students was extremely high. I was very impressed by the quality of the documents and could see the extent of the effort and enthusiasm which had gone into their preparation. It was very difficult to choose a winner, but what is clear is that Guernsey is in very good hands with such a large number of talented students interested in developing their business acumen”.
