Ogier continues to sponsor the Guernsey Squash Racquets Association in the development of Guernsey youth squash players, through funding for local tournaments as well as travel costs for off-island tournaments.
In 2007 this included funding a junior squash team to compete in a Squash FUN series in Cymru, Wales. The squad, coached by Peter Bridgeman and Martin Watts, was made up of eight boys and four girls aged 7-12 years who represent the future of squash in Guernsey. The young players competed in matches all weekend against regional Welsh teams from north, south and west Wales giving them the opportunity to gain competition experience outside of the Channel Islands. The tournament took place at the Welsh Institute of Sport in Cardiff.
Peter Bridgeman, Director of Guernsey Squash, said: “For many of the juniors this was their first taste of competition off-island. The most important thing was for them to gain experience and prepare them for future tournaments as well as refining their marking and positioning skills."
Ogier’s on-going support has included sponsoring the Guernsey senior squad and the business leagues in recent years and the firm is delighted to be able to continue encouraging junior players to develop their skills in this particular sport .
