The British Virgin Islands (BVI) is a small group of islands at the north-east end of the Leeward Islands in the Caribbean. The BVI is a British Overseas Territory with a legal system based on English common law. Politically stable the islands have successfully established a thriving international business industry which ranks amongst the top offshore jurisdictions globally.
Initiatives aimed at low-tax jurisdictions, primarily by the OECD and FATF, have enhanced the reputation of the BVI greatly as the islands were not named on any blacklists and to date the territory maintained this creditable position. The independent Financial Services Commission is acknowledged as a most responsive authority.
