Ogier appoints 13 new lawyers to the Guernsey office in 2007

Article Date - 22/02/2008

Ogier’s dramatic growth in recent years continued throughout 2007 with the appointment of 13 new lawyers in Guernsey. From just two people in 1998, the firm now employs more than 80 staff in the Guernsey office, including 34 fee-earners.

The new recruits have joined from London and UK law firms, other Guernsey practices, as well as leading law firms in South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. This includes the appointment of Nick Gamble, who joined from London law firm, Freshfields, as an Ogier Group partner and as a consultant to the Guernsey legal practice. On being admitted to the local Bar Nick will become a partner of the Ogier Guernsey legal practice. Nick is the most senior lawyer recruited to a Guernsey law firm in the last 20 years. Caroline Chan joined as a Managing Associate, with Diane Bailey, Hennie Du Toit and Ann Halliday being appointed as Senior Associates. Matt Sanders, Rachael Sanders, Guy Lloyd, Claudia Shan, Richard Sharp, Nicholas Taitz and Charisma Lyall joined the firm as Associate lawyers. They all joined the Business and Trust Law Group of Ogier and focus their practices on investments funds, corporate and commercial and banking and finance related matters. Rupert Morris joined the Litigation Department as an Associate lawyer and specialises in commercial litigation.

William Simpson, Managing Partner of the Ogier Guernsey office, said “I am delighted to announce the appointment of so many new lawyers. They bring with them a range of legal knowledge and experience which will complement the expertise of our existing legal teams.  We have been noted as punching above our weight in previous years in the Ogier Guernsey office but the fast-track development we have witnessed recently has firmly put us on the map in Guernsey’s legal sector.  We expect this growth to continue.”
