Over £12,000 has been raised by staff and partners of Ogier in Guernsey to donate to the re-development appeal for Les Bourgs Hospice.
Les Bourgs Hospice, a charity providing medical and nursing facility at Andrew Mitchell House, is seeking to raise a total of £ 4 million to finance the complete redevelopment of the existing site and cover ongoing maintenance and running costs of the new facility.
The funds provided by Ogier staff have helped the appeal reach a total of £ 1.9m to date towards its target.
Each year, every Ogier employee has the opportunity to nominate a charity for the law and fiduciary firm to support. The shortlist is then put out for a firm-wide vote, and Les Bourgs Hospice was the chosen charity to receive the funds raised in the past year.
The Ogier Active committee runs a programme of fund raising activities throughout the year for the nominated charity, such as prize draw competitions and raffles at the annual Christmas party, and sales of cakes or home-grown produce. Everyone at Ogier supports Ogier Active in some way. All funds raised by staff over the year are matched by the partners to double the total.
The cheque for £12,078.00 was presented to Jo Boyd, Director of Nursing, and Sandra Platts, the Re-development Appeal Director, by Ogier partner, Simon Davies, and members of the Ogier Active Committee.
Simon Davies said “The Ogier Active Committee put in a tremendous amount of time and effort each year to ensure we have a substantial sum of money raised to support a local charity. We are very proud of their efforts again this year, and indeed grateful for the generosity of all our staff in making such a significant contribution to the Les Bourgs redevelopment project possible.”
Jo Boyd, Director of Nursing added “This is such a generous donation and made even more special because of the hard work that everyone put in to raising it. All the staff here are very grateful and we look forward to showing you our new facilities in the autumn.”
The appeal was launched in 2010 and building work is well underway with the aim of opening the new facility in November this year. Single-occupancy bedrooms with garden access, a lounge area, consulting rooms for out patients, specially equipped bathrooms, a central nurses station together with office space will all be included in the new build.
