Ogier raises over £6,800 for Guernsey Life Boat

Article Date - 24/09/2010

Over £6,800 has been raised by staff and partners of Ogier in Guernsey to help support the Guernsey lifeboat service.

Each year every Ogier employee has the opportunity to nominate a charity for the law and fiduciary firm to support which is then decided on by a firm-wide vote. The Guernsey Lifeboat Guild is the latest charity to receive the monies raised across the firm in the past year.

The cheque was presented to Celia Allen, Chairman of The Guernsey Lifeboat Guild, and Ian Horton, Treasurer, by Ogier partner Simon Davies and members of Ogier’s fund-raising committee, “Ogier Active”.

Celia Allen commented “We are most grateful to the staff and partners of Ogier for raising such a magnificent sum. The upkeep of The Spirit of Guernsey is dependent on such generosity and this donation will be put to very good use, such as the ongoing maintenance and running costs of the lifeboat as well as training for the crew.”

The Ogier Active committee runs a programme of fund raising activities throughout the year for the nominated charity, such as prize draw competitions and raffles at the annual summer ball, Christmas raffles, sales of home-grown produce, cake sales and by sponsorship of individual or team activities.  Everyone at Ogier supports Ogier Active in some way.  All funds raised by staff over the year are matched by the partners.

Simon Davies, Ogier partner, said “Ogier Active puts in a tremendous effort to ensure we can help a local charity each year and I would like to congratulate them on this latest achievement.  The Guernsey lifeboat service provides a vital service and is a very worthwhile local cause to support.”

The Guernsey Lifeboat Guild was set up in 1972 to assist in the purchase of Guernsey’s own Arun Class lifeboat.  In 1997, a further £1 million had been raised to support the building of “The Spirit of Guernsey” which looks after the Guernsey waters today.
