Two Ogier students qualify as solicitors

Article Date - 30/06/2006

Two of Ogier’s lawyers have qualified as English solicitors.

Matthew Gilley and Lucy Rogers were among the first to sign up to the firm’s solicitor training programme in 2004

Ogier is one of the few firms in Jersey authorised by the English Law Society to offer training contracts enabling its lawyers to become qualified in England and Wales.

Mr Gilley was educated at Victoria College and read law at Glamorgan and Cardiff Universities, graduating in 2000.

Having previously spent time with the Ogier as a student he joined the firm in a full-time capacity in 2000. He has worked in property law and, more recently, in the firm’s business and trust law group.

Mr Gilley is currently working in Ogier’s London office.

Miss Rogers was educated at Beaulieu Convent School and graduated from Exeter University with LLB (Hons) in 2000.

She joined Ogier in 2001 and, as part of its training contract, undertook the Legal Practice Course at Nottingham University Law School in 2003.  Miss Rogers is a member of Ogier’s business and trust law group.

Partner and head of the firm’s business and trust law group Clive Chaplin said: ‘Lucy and Matt are the first two of a great bunch of young people qualifying as English solicitors with Ogier. Although we don't practise English law, the similarities with Jersey (and Guernsey) law in corporate, banking and trust law fields are such that we can give a varied and challenging training programme to local candidates in both islands.’
