Volunteers from Ogier enjoyed sharing stories with a group of youngsters from a St Helier primary school this National Storytelling week.

In partnership with Every Child Our Future, a local Channel Island charity focused on improving education outcomes for local children, a team of Ogier volunteers in Jersey regularly visits partner primary school Rouge Bouillon to provide one-to-one reading support to pupils who struggle with literacy.

Every Child Our Future works alongside Guernsey and Jersey's Education Departments, schools and local businesses to improve literacy and numeracy standards for local children and actively promotes a culture in which the community takes responsibility for, and participates in, the education of its children.

Ogier's Head of Marketing Kate Kirk said: "The Ogier volunteers have found it really rewarding to be able to make a direct difference in a child's life by helping them to read. National Storytelling Week reminds us of the power of stories and reading, and the role that strong reading skills plays in the rest of a child's life.

"With a number of global studies proving the connection between children reading well at primary school level and future career success, it's clear that if we want to reduce inequality in education we need to provide one to one reading time with children who otherwise may not have access to this opportunity."
