James is a lawyer specialising in all aspects of the structuring, formation, management and operation of alternative investment vehicles. He has a particular focus on the commercial, regulatory and tax issues affecting institutional investment in a cross-border context. James spent 10 years in private practice before going into industry in 2006.

    Before joining Ogier in 2017, James worked for 10 years as general counsel of a global asset manager and a private equity administration group.  This time in industry gave him an in-depth understanding of the commercial, regulatory and tax issues impacting the alternative investment process across Europe, which are topics that he has written and spoken about extensively.  James was also a member of the Legal & Technical Committee of Invest Europe, co-authored guidance and technical submissions and gave technical training as part of their masterclass series.

    James started his career in the City focussing on venture capital and private equity investment before specialising in alternative investment funds and going into industry.  James first came to Luxembourg in 2007 where he became an early advocate of partnership reform and sat on various ALFI and LPEA technical committees.

    James is an English solicitor and an avocat registered on List IV in Luxembourg.  He studied law at University College London and has British and Irish nationality.
