Five partners from Ogier have been included in Asia Business Law Journal's prestigious list of Top 50 Offshore Lawyers 2022.

Included on the A-List are Kate Hodson, Anthony Oakes, Nicholas Plowman and Nathan Powell, from the firm's Hong Kong office, who are joined by Ray Wearmouth from Ogier in the BVI.

The five lawyers were selected after extensive research conducted by the publication, and nominations were received from in-house counsel and partners from both offshore and onshore law firms in the region.

It is the latest recognition for Ogier in Hong Kong, with Kate, Anthony and Nicholas also named in the Asian Legal Business Client Choice List 2022, an annual listing of Asia’s outstanding lawyers working with offshore law firms.

The accolades also come at a significant time for Ogier's continued growth in Asia, having opened a representative office in Beijing in early 2022, just five months after the launch of Ogier Global in Singapore. The firm also has an established presence in Shanghai and Tokyo.

"It's really pleasing to see five of our partners ranked among the 50 best offshore lawyers in the region. It's a testament to their hard work and talent, and also to Ogier's commitment to client service in Asia. The firm has taken some important strategic steps in the region and it's exciting to see our profile continue to grow," said Nicholas Plowman, practice partner for Hong Kong.

Kate Hodson, head of ESG (Legal), launched Ogier's Sustainable Investment and Impact Funds practice in 2020. Kate advises GPs and fund managers on the establishment and structuring of private equity funds and hedge funds as well as advising LPs on their fund investments, and is one of a small group of offshore lawyers with a significant Japan practice.

Anthony Oakes is the head of Ogier's finance practice in Asia and provides BVI and Cayman advice in relation to broad range of financing transactions and restructurings. He also has a strong focus on corporate work, including mergers and acquisitions, IPOs, private equity structures and capital markets transactions.

Commenting to the publication, one client said: “Anthony is a brilliant offshore lawyer who is knowledgeable and very commercial, being able to put himself in his clients’ shoes for a workable and efficient solution,” They added that: “He is personable and great to work with. Highly recommended.”

Nicholas Plowman is the head of Ogier's Investment Funds team in Asia. He acts for a wide variety of Asian fund managers in the private equity, long only and hedge fund space. His clients represent some of the more sophisticated and respected fund managers in Asia. Nick has been ranked as one of the "World's Leading Investment Funds Lawyers" in four editions of Euromoney's Expert Guides.

Nathan Powell is the firm's global head of Corporate legal services and has a broad corporate finance practice with particular expertise in using BVI, Cayman and Jersey companies for capital markets, IPOs, mergers and acquisitions, consortium acquisitions, private equity structures and joint ventures.

Ray Wearmouth is the practice partner of Ogier's BVI office and is recognised as one of the jurisdiction's leading corporate, finance and restructuring lawyers. He regularly deals with large and complex refinancing mandates, as well as corporate restructurings and reorganisations, and has advised on many of the jurisdiction's most prominent transactions over the last 20 years.
