Music in Action (Jersey Charity No 308) is delighted to announce that Ogier is supporting the opening up of music education to approximately 1,400 school children in Jersey through its sponsorship of the event ‘Jersey Sings!’ in June for the second year running.  As well as Ogier supporting, the charity is supported for some of the infrastructure costs by the Sir James Knott Trust.

Jersey Sings! is presented working in partnership with the Jersey Music Service and in association with Young Voices.  The Royal Jersey Showground will be transformed into an arena style concert hall housing 1,400+ children, a live band and bustling audience. The choir will perform medleys from the Greatest Showman, Moana, Hans Christian Anderson, Coldplay as well as songs by Jersey teacher Rebecca Lawrence, visiting soloists Joanna L’Estrange and Elliott Morris.

The 3 month educational project that ends in a showcase at The Royal Jersey showground will this year include a song in Jerriais written by Rebecca Lawrence and translated by Ben Spink and Kit Ashton. As part of celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Jersey, the children will also be commemorating the 100 year anniversary since women were awarded the right to vote, with esteemed soloist Joanna L’Estrange performing a solo in homage to this landmark victory.

James Mews, Chairman of Music in Action, said “it is wonderful that Jersey Sings! is returning for its fourth year in June.  Children learn so many important skills that extend way beyond the singing. Research has shown that singing helps children’s creativity, language and brain development as well as personal and social development. They learn how to interact with each other as well as an audience, how to perform with confidence and gain new skills from the discipline of rehearsing an extensive musical repertoire”.

Kate Kirk, Director of Marketing at Ogier said "Ogier supports education in its broadest sense, with our CSR projects covering a variety of initiatives. Last year we were excited to get involved for the first time with Jersey Sings! and we were delighted to watch this amazing community music project as it developed and culminated in two fantastic shows. The benefits of musical education for children are well-known, and what is particularly compelling about Jersey Sings! is how it opens up these benefits to such a large number of local children."

Stephanie McGill stated, “We are so grateful to Ogier for supporting the event, and to the schools and teachers for their continued commitment to the project. We look forward to working on the musical repertoire and assisting schools, parents and their children with the necessary resources and support to ensure that the Jersey Sings! experience delivers a positive impact for all involved.”

Directed by David Lawrence, this dynamic choir will be supported by the talented seven-piece Jersey Sings! rock band. Jersey Sings! is about celebrating everyone’s individual achievements through the medium of song and dance. The thousands of words learnt by the choir demonstrate the commitment and enthusiasm of the children and teachers involved and really help ensure that all eyes remain firmly on them as they sing and dance with joy, proud to be a part of such a wonderful opportunity.
