Ogier appoints leading structured finance specialist Simon Felton as banking partner

Senior offshore banking lawyer Simon Felton has joined Ogier's top tier Banking and Finance team as a partner.

Simon – who has held managing partner roles in offices in New York and London - is known for his experience in leading international teams working on complex and ground-breaking structured finance transactions.

With a background in Jersey banking and finance law spanning 20 years Simon's focus is on advising major investment banks on a wide range of capital markets, structured finance and securitisation transactions.

Simon's arrival comes during a period of significant strategic growth at Ogier, where the number of partners has increased by ten per cent in the last year. The firm has also opened a new London office and appointed a Director of Service Innovation in the last six months.

Simon's recent work prior to joining Ogier has included assisting a global financial institution to establish a platform to consolidate its global issuance of structured products outside of the US, assisting an SPV to participate in a programme for the repackaging of securitisation residuals, advising a Jersey receivables trustee in relation to the disposal of a substantial portfolio of mortgage receivables and advising in relation to a significant publically offered equity raise by a listed Jersey company.

Simon has also advised in relation to substantial private M&A activity for institutional and private equity clients.

Simon joins a team which is led by experienced partners across the Channel Islands, the Caribbean and Asia including:

Angus Davison – Ogier's global head of Banking and Finance, Angus's particular focus is on providing regulatory and other advice to international banks and other financial institutions with Cayman Islands branches or subsidiaries, as well as advising clients on debt issues, facility arrangements and Islamic Finance structures. 'A very strong technical lawyer who exhibits the responsiveness and commerciality of the firm,' said one client in recent independent feedback.

Katrina Edge - Katrina advises clients on a wide range of financing and corporate transactions with a particular focus on secured lending, fund financing, property financing and restructuring transactions as well as advising clients in connection with the establishment, acquisition and disposal or real estate holding structures. 

James Heinicke – James has a particular expertise in fund financing and Cayman Islands financial services regulation and frequently represents international banks and other clients on licensing applications to the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA) and ongoing regulatory requirements.

Christopher Jones – Christopher advises financial institutions, investment funds and corporate clients on a broad range of multi-jurisdictional transactions, with a particular emphasis of asset finance. He is admitted in Guernsey, England & Wales and New York.

Marcus Leese - Marcus specialises in banking and finance (including structured finance), most recently advising Barings Real with respect to the financing of the purchase of the iconic Liver Building – the first time that the building has changed hands since it was completed in 1911.

Bruce MacNeil – named by the Legal 500 UK 2016 as ‘top-drawer’, Bruce has represented a wide range of financial institutions and companies on banking, derivatives, corporate, finance and restructuring transactions.

Anthony Oakes – the Head of Ogier's Banking and Finance team in Asia, Anthony has been named one of the top ten offshore lawyers in Asia for the last two years, and continues to work on landmark deals, including structured finance and Islamic finance work.

Daniel Richards – Daniel has extensive experience in all aspects of private capital-structuring and finance in Jersey and Luxembourg. He advises private capital fund managers in relation to international investment structures across a broad range of equity and credit asset classes.
