Ogier's Hong Kong and Jersey teams advise on cryptocurrency fund launch

News

06 March 2018

Cayman Islands, Hong Kong, Jersey

Ogier assisted as legal counsel to Bletchley Park Asset Management on the launch of its first cryptocurrency fund.

BPAM was founded by Lewis Fellas, a former portfolio manager at the Harvard Management Company, and Ronnie Potel, formerly an executive for Morgan Stanley.

The Fund, structured as a Cayman Islands master feeder fund structure and registered with CIMA, is credited with being one of the few institutional quality cryptocurrency funds at the time of its launch.

Ogier partners Kate Hodson and Emily Haithwaite advised on the Cayman and Jersey law elements of the launch respectively.

Kate and Emily are part of Ogier's dedicated Digital, Blockchain and Fintech team established to assist clients operating or investing in businesses in the Fintech sector and clients implementing investment strategies and developing businesses involving cryptocurrencies, digital assets and blockchain technology.

Kate said: "We are pleased to have been able to assist BPAM on the launch of its cryptocurrency fund, which involved advice on Cayman and Jersey law from the Asian and European timezones."

Ogier also acted for BPAM on its licensing application in Jersey and helped it to obtain a licence to conduct fund services business.

Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP advised BPAM on matters of US laws.
