Before moving to the BVI in 2013, Grant practised at the English Bar where his work focused on commercial and chancery matters.
During his time in BVI Grant has acted on a wide range of matters including restructuring and insolvency, funds litigation and shareholder disputes as well as general commercial disputes. He has been regularly instructed by office holders (including receivers and insolvency practitioners) as well as other stakeholders and beneficiaries. He also represents trustees, protectors and beneficiaries in relation to their rights under offshore trust arrangements, and shareholders of distressed funds in connection with disputes arising out, or in anticipation of, events of default or unpaid redemptions or capital calls. Grant has additionally provided expert evidence on BVI law for the courts of other jurisdictions.
Grant has considerable experience in obtaining and defending injunctive relief granted by the courts and regularly seeks Norwich Pharmacal orders, injunctions and the appointment of receivers in aid of injunctions (both domestic and foreign).
Grant acted for the Brazilian Constellation Group in obtaining the first ever 'soft touch' provisional liquidation in the BVI. This was part of a wider cross border multi-jurisdictional restructuring involving a judicially supervised restructuring in Brazil, a Scheme of Arrangement in the BVI and Chapter 15 proceedings in New York.
As well as his considerable LatAm experience, Grant has a wealth of experience working with CIS-based clients and represented the successful party at first instance in substantial litigation involving Russia's second-largest airline at the time. He also acted in the substantial and long running Emmerson v Renova litigation involving Mikhail Abyzov and Viktor Vekselberg.
Grant regularly represents Asia-based clients in respect of major cross-border litigation and insolvency matters. He acted for the successful party in a shareholder dispute regarding a global dry bulk shipping business, which involved a five day trial with simultaneous translators.
Grant is recognised by Chambers and Partners, Legal 500 and Who's Who Legal.
