Maria is part of the Dispute Resolution team in the Cayman Islands.  Before she relocated to Cayman in 2020, Maria was a senior associate at the law firm Barbosa, Mussnich & Aragao (BMA) in Rio de Janeiro, specializing in commercial litigation/arbitration and restructuring and insolvency.

Maria has a PhD and a Masters degree from Rio de Janeiro State University and an LL.M degree from Buccerius Law School in Germany.  She has also co-authored text books with Brazilian Federal Supreme Court Chief Justice, Luiz Fux and is a member of the International Chamber of Commerce Young Arbitrators Forum (ICC-YAF) and the International Women's Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation (IWIRC).

Background and experience

A graduate of the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro in 2013, Maria also holds a Master's degree in law and business from German's N.1. private law school, Bucerius Law school, and a Master's in procedure law from Rio De Janeiro State University.

Maria qualified as an Attorney in Brazil in 2013.
