Develop with the help of Ogier

Ogier is a growing firm that is constantly looking for new talent to join our international family and be part of our future. We are committed to training and developing the skills of our people – not just in terms of qualifications and formal learning, but also to create a team of energetic, inquiring and dynamic minds. We're proud of the investment we make in new talent and training, and also of the open, friendly, team-based culture that we have built. Here, four of our team give an insight into their experience of our commitment to training and creating an environment in which everyone is encouraged and supported to reach their full potential:

Emily Haithwaite, Partner

Earlier this year, I made a lateral move from another local firm to join Ogier as a partner in the Investment Funds team.

I've known many of the partners and fee-earners at Ogier for a long time, so it has been an easy transition, and it's a very open and welcoming partnership.

The strategy and vision for the firm permeates everything we do, from recruitment to training, day to day operational matters, strategic management decisions and also the softer side from team-building to staff and client care.

Everyone at Ogier is able – and in fact is expected – to contribute to the firm's vision, and those who are more tech savvy can become part of an elite innovation team.

Overall, you really get the feeling that the people here are aspirational, that they enjoy what they do and that they believe in the firm's success. Moving to Ogier has provided me with a fantastic platform from which to develop my practice in investment funds and I feel privileged to join such a wonderful team.

Leon Hurd. Senior Associate

Having trained with City firm Linklaters, and subsequently practicing in London in both private practice and in-house roles, I was not sure how easily I would make the transition to island life. In fact it has been an easy change professionally given the high quality and typically international nature of the work I am involved in at Ogier. One of the key differences I have found between onshore and offshore practice is that I have a much broader practice offshore, involving the chance to work on a wider variety of matters than I might be exposed to in an onshore role. I advise on a range of commercial and trust disputes in addition to advising on insolvency, financial crime and sanctions and contentious regulatory matters. I also love the fact that the small size of the Island makes it very easy to meet clients, colleagues and friends in person. I'm looking forward to continuing to develop at Ogier and enjoying everything that Island life has to offer.

Alexandros Roussos, Associate

I joined Ogier in March 2017 as an associate in the banking team, after working in a large law firm in New York and completing a training contract in my home country, Greece. My decision to join Ogier was motivated by the excellent reputation and leading position of the firm across all practises and offshore jurisdictions, the impressive résumés of its lawyers and the innovative approach to legal services, owing amongst others to a relatively young leadership. Since "day one", I was encouraged to develop direct client contact, work autonomously and take initiative to solve clients' problems with a commercial approach, skills that ensure a smooth transition from fee earner to management level and are often overlooked in large onshore firms. More importantly, Ogier has shown a remarkable ability to identify and capitalise on talent from very diverse backgrounds by allowing each of us to offer our unique perspective and actively influence the team's work process.

On the social side, the diversity and size of the Jersey office and the frequent social events have helped me adopt easily and make the best out of island life!

Tatiana Collins, Associate

After qualifying and working at an international firm in London, where I had a secondment to the firm's Frankfurt office, I joined Ogier’s Jersey Investment Funds team in 2014 because of its excellent reputation for top quality work, its friendly and approachable partners and associates and the attractiveness of island life (especially the short commute and beautiful beaches). Since joining Ogier, I have particularly enjoyed working on a diverse range of investment funds and corporate transactions with top class investors, managers and advisers in Jersey and around the world. In 2016, I spent a year in Ogier's Investment Funds team in the Cayman Islands, where I was admitted to practise as an attorney. This was a great work and life experience that gave me the opportunity to broaden my skills and to work in a different environment. The chance to qualify in the Cayman Islands has also broadened my exposure to the international aspects of offshore work – it's a great example of the varied opportunities that a firm such as Ogier can offer to its employees.
