Ogier in Luxembourg provided legal advice in one of the most complex and significant insolvency procedures around Germany's prominent retailer Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof.

Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof is a brand which is part of Signa Holding, an Austrian multi asset platform, which recently applied for bankruptcy, triggering insolvency proceedings in several European countries. The real assets alone held by Signa Holding are estimated to a volume of around €27 billion.

Ogier's Fund and Corporate / M&A teams in Luxembourg advised one of the two final bidders with the setup of the acquisition structure for the renowned German department store giant in the context of the ongoing insolvency proceedings (covered in prestigious German online magazine,JUVE). The team consisted of head of Ogier's German Desk Milan Hauber, partner Bertrand Géradin, managing associate Sarah Verlende and senior associate Lucie Steinmetz.

Head of Ogier's German Desk Milan Hauber said: "Ogier's involvement in this transaction is a testimony of its growing footprint in the DACH region. The multi-disciplinary German Desk team was able to advise on and implement an adequate structuring option within a short timeframe. We would like to thank our lead counsels at BUSE Rechtsanwälte und Notare for the pleasant and seamless collaboration."

Ogier's German desk, which has eight team members based in the Luxembourg office, assists German-speaking clients with their legal needs across the whole range of legal services, in their language of choice. Learn more about our German Desk.
