Ogier partner heads Cayman Special Economic Zone Authority

Ogier Regional Managing Partner James Bergstrom has been appointed chairman of the authority that oversees the Special Economic Zones Law in the Cayman Islands.

James, who joined Ogier in 1991, is a former president of the Caymanian Bar Association and was a council member of the Cayman Islands Stock Exchange from 2006 to 2010.

The only developer approved under the law, Cayman Enterprise City, has attracted an estimated 160 corporate entities. It has been reported that the zone creates an annual $23.6 million benefit to the Cayman economy.

James said: "Whilst the legislation is relatively new, I think the use of the special economic zone can attract significant inward investment into Cayman across a range of sectors."
