Children across Guernsey will receive free fresh fruit throughout the academic year through Ogier’s extended support of Les Cotils’ Fruit for Schools initiative.

Having contributed to the programme over the past two years, Ogier has increased its support to cover all three school terms, helping Les Cotils provide a consistent supply of fresh fruit throughout the coming academic year.

Established in 2020, Fruit for Schools encourages healthy eating and gives children access to nutritious snacks during the school day. Fresh fruit is delivered each week to States of Guernsey primary schools and two States-supported nurseries. The initiative ensures that fresh fruit is available to children regardless of their circumstances.

Fiona Naftel of Les Cotils said: “We’re committed to ensuring the sustained success of the Fruit for Schools initiative, enabling children across the island to enjoy fresh fruit as part of their daily diet.

“The programme relies on the support of our community, and we are incredibly grateful to Ogier for extending its funding to the full academic year. That commitment gives us the reassurance that we can continue providing fruit to schools throughout the year, reaching hundreds of children across the island.”

Heidi Sandy, partner and CSR committee member at Ogier, said: “We’ve seen the positive difference Fruit for Schools can make, which is why we’re delighted to extend our support to the full academic year. Providing children with regular access to fresh fruit not only supports healthy eating but gives them the opportunity to try different foods and build positive habits from a young age.

“We’re proud to work with Les Cotils to help ensure this valuable programme can continue throughout the school year and reach children across Guernsey.”

Fruit for Schools forms part of Les Cotils' wider Food for Families programme, which includes initiatives such as its Community Café and Family Fun Days, supporting local families and communities across the island. To find out more, visit Les Cotils' website.
