With the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) being in force for over a year, late last month the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) issued a press release containing a snapshot of certain processes in relation to the GDPR.

The EDPB has highlighted some key figures at both a European and national level:

  • at a European level, the EDPB IMI (Internal Market Information System), which is the IT platform to support cooperation and consistency procedures under the GDPR, registered 446 cross-border cases, 205 of which have been followed by One-Stop-Shop procedures (procedures in front of a lead supervisory authority in case of cross border processing): 19 have so far resulted in final outcomes;
  • at a national level, over 144 000 individual queries and complaints and over 89 000 data breach notifications have been logged by the EEA Supervisory Authorities: 37% of those are ongoing.

This has inter alia confirmed that individuals are increasingly aware of their data protection rights (67% of EU citizens polled indicated that they have heard of the GDPR, representing an increase of 20% in relation to the survey run in 2015).

Should you have any questions or require any assistance with ensuring compliance with the GDPR, please contact Ogier in Luxembourg.
