Gemma Cowan

Gemma specialises in fund formations and the regulatory compliance, ongoing operation and restructuring of Cayman Islands hedge funds and private equity funds.

Background and experience

Gemma is a part of Ogier's multi-disciplinary Private Equity team and also has broad experience advising on "funds of one" and co-investment vehicles.

She was recognised as a Next Generation Partner in the area of investment funds in the Legal 500 Caribbean for 2026, prior to which she was recognized as a Leading Associate in the Legal 500 Caribbean for 2025 and as a Rising Star for 2020 - 2024.

Gemma joined Ogier in 2022 after working for five years in the funds, finance and corporate department of the Cayman Islands office of another leading offshore law firm.

Before moving offshore, she worked at Norton Rose Fulbright Australia and Steinepreis Paganin in Perth, Australia, where she specialised in M&A and capital markets transactions.

Gemma received her Bachelor of Laws with distinction from The University of Western Australia and is a member of the Cayman Islands Legal Practitioners Association.
