James Macfee

James is part of the governance team of Ogier Global in the Cayman Islands and acts as a Director to alternative investment funds. Since taking his first directorship appointment in 2016, James has served on the boards of a range investment funds, from emerging to multi-billion-dollar managers. James holds the Accredited Director designation granted by the Corporate Governance Institute of Canada and is a Professional Director registered with the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority.

Background and experience

Prior to joining Ogier Global in 2021, James acted as an independant director on alternative investment funds at a financial services provider in Cayman, where he managed a portfolio of clients.

James’ background as a Chartered Accountant in the UK and in the Cayman Islands, both in audit and advisory roles, at one of the Big Four accounting firms has led to experience across consumer markets, banking and the alternative investment sector. Through these roles James has developed a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and legal requirements of Cayman Islands companies which supports his fiduciary role at Ogier.

James enjoys regularly meeting with clients and industry peers in person and at industry events. He is on the executive committee of the Cayman Islands Directors Association. James is also a passionate sailor and has completed a circumnavigation of the globe. He credits this adventure with further developing his risk management skills. James has represented the Cayman Islands playing international rugby and is currently serving as a second lieutenant in the Cayman Islands Regiment, which was formed to aid disaster relief and security in the Islands.
