Laura Le Marechal

Laura is a senior associate in Ogier's Cayman Islands Investment Funds team. Laura advises many of the firm's key private equity and hedge fund clients, as well as emerging and start-up asset managers on the establishment, regulation, governance and ongoing operation of closed-ended and open-ended funds.

Background and experience

Laura joined Ogier from Allen & Overy's global fund & asset management group in London where she advised fund managers and sponsors on fund establishments, co-investments, fund IPOs, secondary fundraises, joint ventures, downstream investments, investment management arrangements and regulatory matters including the AIFMD. Laura has extensive LP advisory experience in particular, advising institutional investors, including sovereign wealth funds and pension schemes, on their investments in funds and other investment structures. Laura has a truly international funds practice having also spent two years in Allen & Overy's funds and regulatory team in Sydney advising on investment fund transactions across APAC. Laura began her career as a corporate lawyer where she gained extensive experience advising on public and private mergers and acquisitions and equity capital markets, including advising listed investment funds on IPO's, secondary fundraises and acquisitions.

Laura joined Ogier's Investment Funds team in the Cayman Islands in 2022 and now specialises in the establishment, regulation, governance and ongoing operation of open-ended and closed-ended funds. Laura is also part of Ogier's multi-disciplinary Private Equity team and has broad experience in fund formation, capital raising, downstream corporate advisory, fund re-domiciliation (into and out of the jurisdiction) and advising fund operators on corporate governance, fiduciary and regulatory matters.

Laura received her Bachelor of Laws from Kings College London graduating with Honours in 2011 and her Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the College of Law, London in 2012, and more recently completed a pre-MBA course "Credential of Readiness" from the Harvard Business School online.  Laura is also a member of the Cayman Islands Legal Practitioners Association.

Laura is a member of Ogier's CSR and charitable committee and throughout her career has had a strong focus on volunteering and pro bono work, having recently advised a mental health charity create a tea brand where the profits go directly into funding a youth mental health outreach programme. She has also been involved in a youth outreach programme for underprivileged students in London.
