Martin is a consultant for Ogier’s Regulatory team in the Cayman Islands with a particular focus on Ogier's clients in the Asia time zone.
With more than 30 years advising the worlds largest fund managers and funds, brokers, administrators, investment banks and family offices on risk management and regulatory compliance, Martin has unparalleled experience and is widely recognised as an expert in his field.
Martin specialises in prudential regulatory requirements (including mandatory filings and reporting, risk management, internal control and corporate governance frameworks), AML / CFT / sanctions, data protection, cybersecurity and tax reporting. He also has extensive experience advising on CIMA inspections and international mergers and acquisitions.
Martin regularly engages with the CIMA, the Cayman Financial Reporting Authority, the Department of International Tax Cooperation and other government agencies on behalf of clients. He has also developed expansive professional relationships with key industry service providers, regulators and onshore counsel in the US, Europe, Asia and Middle East.
With more than 30 years of experience, Martin is a pre-eminent authority on Cayman Islands and offshore regulatory financial service obligations.
Martin was formerly president of the Cayman Islands Compliance Association, a renowned thought leader on regulatory law matters and has been involved with a number of legislative committees drafting financial service laws, regulations and guidance. He was a founding member of the Caribbean Regional Compliance Association.
Martin has written articles and chapters for global guides on Cayman financial services regulation and has provided expert evidence in international proceedings and arbitration.
Martin began his legal career at DLA Piper NZ and is also a member of the NZ Institute of Directors.
