Background and experience
He is a fellow of Chartered Accountants Ireland, a Chartered Tax Advisor of the Irish Taxation Institute and he was a member of the inaugural class of the MSc in Aviation Finance from UCD Graduate Business School (1st Class).
Arthur contributed a chapter on Risk in Aviation Finance to the 5th and 6th editions of Aircraft Financing, published by Bloomsbury Publishing in London 2021 and 2026. Arthur has lectured extensively on finance and tax matters at Chartered Accountants Ireland and at the UCD Michael Smurfit College.
Arthur specialises in advising clients on finance, tax, contract and regulatory matters across numerous industries. This includes aviation, financial services, funds, banking, private equity and real estate. His clients have included a wide range of industry participants both domestically and internationally.
Recent Work
- Responsible for global finance and tax planning, structuring and implementation across an aviation platform valued at US$3.5 billion
- Supported an EU investor group in raising US$1.5 billion initial capital for an aviation platform in Ireland. Recommended the initial asset / contract management and nominal ledger systems required to setup the platform
- Assisted general counsel in negotiating numerous lease agreements, sale and purchase agreements, lending agreements, maintenance contracts and general trade agreements with suppliers and customers
- During COVID, advised and supported numerous lessors, in evaluating the accounting policies and tax strategy of airlines Critically reviewed customer cash flow projections and requirements, actively assessed key risks and credits of each airline and advised on restructurings
- Advised a leading European insurer on the EU wide commercial and tax issues in implementing a Pan European branch structure across Europe
- Supported a major UK plc on the Irish taxation and financial issues of an inversion into Ireland
- Led a global team in advising an Australian bank on the acquisition of US$4.8 billion of aircraft from a global aircraft lessor. Work involved all aspects of the acquisition on tax, finance, advisory and risk services including advice on the replacement financing strategy for each asset
- Advised clients both domestically in Ireland and internationally on tax audits from their respective tax authorities. Supported clients in reaching agreements to mitigate risks of exposure and reducing financial liabilities
- Led a team of six personnel in managing, structuring and implementing real estate activity for a leading Irish bank in the US, UK and Europe
