Jermaine is a senior associate focusing on regulatory matters in the Cayman Islands and British Virgin Islands.
He advises financial institutions, investment funds, investment managers, administrators and other service providers on automatic exchange of information obligations under the FATCA and CRS regimes, data protection, anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing. Jermaine also advises on financial services business licensing and registration, economic substance, regulatory inspections and beneficial ownership requirements.
Prior to joining Ogier in 2025, Jermaine began his specialist international finance centre practice in the funds and regulatory department of a leading international firm in the British Virgin Islands. He then moved to a boutique law firm where he was instrumental in setting up their investment funds and regulatory practice. Earlier in his career, Jermaine was a Dispute Resolution associate at another leading law firm in Jamaica. He also served as Crown Counsel in the International Affairs Division of the Attorney General’s Chambers advising the Government of Jamaica on the negotiation of Tax Information Exchange Agreements, implementation of the FATCA regime, CFATF fourth round mutual evaluation, OFAC sanctions indirectly affecting the bauxite industry and anti-corruption matters under United Nations and Organisation of American States review and implementation mechanisms.
Jermaine also served as an adjunct lecturer at the University of the West Indies, Mona, Jamaica for eight years, teaching contract, tort, international law and international law mooting courses.
Jermaine holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill with First Class Honours and a Legal Education Certificate from Norman Manley Law School (Principal's Honour Roll), completing both programmes as Valedictorian. Jermaine also earned a Master of Law from the University of Cambridge (with Honours), where he was awarded the Sir Hirsch Lauterpacht Prize by St Catherine's College for outstanding performance in International Law.
