Nick Ward

Nick is counsel in Ogier's Banking and Finance team in the Cayman Islands and has extensive experience on a wide range of finance, investment fund and corporate matters acting for financial institutions, private equity sponsors, hedge funds and corporates. He specialises in structured finance and other off-balance sheet financings as well as in acting for lenders and borrowers on all types of fund financing matters. He has also helped a number of issuers in relation to Cayman Islands Stock Exchange listings.

Background and experience

Nick is an experienced transactional lawyer who calls on onshore experience to advise arrangers, collateral managers and investors in connection with derivatives, structured product issuances and investments, note issuance programs and repackaging and other structured finance transactions (particularly CLOs). He also advises hedge and private equity funds, banks, pension funds, insurers and corporates on a wide spectrum of trading, hedging and financing transactions, security and prime brokerage arrangements and investment management-matters. 

Nick is part of Ogier's multi-disciplinary Restructuring and Insolvency team and has experience representing ad hoc bondholder groups in relation to non-contentious restructurings involving Cayman Islands vehicles. He is a member of RISA’s Marketing and Communication Committee.

Nick has additional experience advising hedge fund managers and other private fund sponsors with respect to all aspects of the establishment and maintenance of hedge and other private investment and associated regulatory compliance obligations.

He received his MA in International Relations from the University of St Andrews in 2005, his Post-graduate Diploma in Law from Nottingham Law School in 2007 and his Diploma in Legal Practice from Nottingham Law School in 2008. 

Nick is a member of the Cayman Islands Legal Practitioners Association and the Law Society of England and Wales.
