Ogier is celebrating World Oceans Day (Monday 8 June) with the Central Caribbean Marine Institute, as Little Cayman is identified as a Hope Spot – a special place critical to the health of the ocean.

With lockdown continuing, CCMI is taking World Oceans Day online this year.

"Ogier is a proud supporter of the CCMI, which is based in the Cayman Islands," said James Bergstrom. "Ogier's Cayman team are passionate supporters of eco-friendly projects, and are particularly enthusiastic about educational projects that will help protect the environment for generations to come.

"We are very pleased to be part of this year's World Oceans Day celebrations, which include Little Cayman being championed as a 'Hope Spot'. Hope Spots are about recognising, empowering and supporting individuals and communities around the world in their efforts to protect the ocean, so we are keen to support one of these critical sites that is right on our doorstep."

Little Cayman is being recognised as a Hope Spot because of the high abundance of threatened and endemic species found there, including one of the last remaining large spawning aggregation sites for the endangered Nassau grouper, green, hawksbill and loggerhead sea turtles nests, and a coast abundant with marine life, including seven species of sharks.

A full schedule of World Oceans Day events can be found here.
