Ogier's Irish corporate team assists Cantor Fitzgerald in a €4.55m investment in Ireland's first ever premium whiskey eco-distillery

Ogier's Dublin-based Corporate team worked alongside Cantor Fitzgerald, Ahascragh Distillery and their advisors to secure up to €4.55 million of investment by way of the Employment Investment Incentive Scheme.

Last month, it was reported that Ahascragh Distillery, in Galway in the west of Ireland, was aiming to raise €4.55 million as part of a strategy to lay down its own whiskey stock.

This investment represents another transaction related to the whiskey distilling industry for Ogier's Corporate team in Ireland. The team has extensive experience in acting for founders, equity providers and debt providers on investments and exits. They have also advised whiskey clients on supply, distribution and bonding agreements and on the protection of their branding IP.

The private equity investment is being undertaken by investment firm Cantor Fitzgerald as part of the Employment Investment Incentive Scheme (EIIS).

Partner Dominic Conlon (head of Corporate in Ireland) and associate Aaron Kelly provided advice to Cantor Fitzgerald in securing the investment.

"We were delighted to work alongside Cantor, Ahascragh and their advisors to secure up to €4.55 million of investment by way of EIIS subscription, representing an exciting opportunity over the next number of years for the company and investors alike," said Dominic.

Having opened in July, the newly commissioned whiskey and gin distillery and visitor centre has been described as Ireland’s first eco-distillery. Its innovative processes are entirely powered by geothermal and other renewable energy sources, producing zero emissions.

Set up by husband and wife Gareth and Michelle McAllister, the unique site is located in a well-preserved 19th century mill in an east Galway village. It has launched three brands to date: Clan Colla Irish Whiskey, UAIS Irish Whiskey and Xin Gin. It is planning for further product releases later this year.
