Cian is an associate in Ogier's Dispute Resolution team. He advises a broad range of clients on complex disputes before all jurisdictions of the Irish courts and in alternative dispute resolution, including mediation and arbitration. Cian specialises in commercial litigation, construction, sports, insurance, cyber and professional negligence disputes.

Background and experience

Before joining Ogier's Ireland office, Cian worked for a top tier Irish law firm where he specialised in construction disputes, international arbitration and commercial litigation. Prior to this, Cian worked for an international law firm, where he practised in commercial litigation and insurance disputes. Before qualifying as a solicitor, Cian worked as judicial assistant to the Chief Justice of Ireland in the Supreme Court.

Recent work

  • Advising construction professionals on construction disputes, including mid-project disputes, statutory adjudication under the Construction Contracts Act 2013 and commercial litigation.
  • Advising sporting bodies, including national governing bodies on a broad range of matters including governance issues, disputes and arbitration.
  • Advising on insurance disputes, including advising insurers on a range of domestic and international policy coverage disputes, claim reserving, personal injury defence litigation, cyber matters and solicitors’ professional indemnity.
  • Advising and defending claims in relation to cyber-attacks against solicitors, construction professionals and other professionals.
  • Advising large construction contractors in high value Commercial Court proceedings and on the discovery of a large volume of documentation.
  • Advising clients in relation to construction adjudications pursuant to the Construction Contracts Act 2013.
  • Advising on ongoing construction projects with a particular focus on early resolution of disputes and avoidance of formal dispute resolution processes.
  • Advising some of Ireland's largest engineering and architecture firms and their insurers in relation to the defence of High Court professional indemnity proceedings and in mediation.
  • Advising on the defence of personal injury actions taken against construction professionals, hospitality organisations, employers, and insurers.
