Richard Sharp

Richard is a corporate lawyer with more than 20 years’ experience in corporate and offshore transactions and a partner in Ogier's corporate and funds team in Guernsey. Richard’s particular specialism is in the Guernsey insurance and reinsurance sector, advising in relation to captives, Insurance Linked Securities, pension risk transfer, cellular structures and regulatory matters. Richard’s practice also includes advising in relation to all aspects of investment funds.

Background and experience

Richard previously worked for UK firm Cobbetts LLP where he advised on a wide range of private and public corporate transactions. Richard has also worked in-house for the corporate finance department of WH Ireland plc.

His background as a UK solicitor before coming to the island in 2007 means that he is equally comfortable providing support to onshore counsel in cross jurisdictional matters or acting as lead counsel on local deals.

Richard is actively involved in promotion of Guernsey and frequently represents the island’s insurance sector on panels at industry events. Richard is trusted counsel to local insurance managers and sits on the board of a number of local insurers.

Richard previously worked with Ogier from 2007 to 2012. He was called to the Guernsey Bar in 2014. Richard re-joined Ogier in 2023.
