James Lydeard is a group partner in the Banking and Finance team in Jersey. James specialises in leveraged, acquisition and fund finance, as well as real estate and structured finance. He has broad experience across banking and finance and corporate matters and also advises on restructuring, margin lending and private credit matters.

Background and experience

James qualified in England and Wales in 2011, joined Ogier in the Cayman Islands in 2015 and moved to Ogier in Jersey in 2020. 

James has an interest in ESG and sustainable finance and practices both Jersey and Cayman Islands law from the Ogier Jersey office. His clients include financial institutions, sponsors and corporates. James' core focus is banking and finance across fund, real estate, leveraged and acquisition finance. James is also part of Ogier's multi-disciplinary Private Equity and Restructuring and Insolvency teams, in respect of which James specialises in fund finance, advising financial institutions and private equity sponsors on leveraged buyout and acquisition financing transactions, refinancing, corporate restructuring and reorganisations respectively. James has worked on a wide range of private equity and Restructuring and Insolvency transactions, often with short turnaround times and cross-border considerations.

James received his LL.B in Law and Management Studies from the University of Leeds in 2007 and his Diploma in Legal Practice from the College of Law in 2009. James is qualified in England and Wales (non-practising) and the Cayman Islands and practices both Jersey and Cayman Islands law, having relocated from the Cayman Islands to Jersey in 2020.
