Matthew Davies

Matthew is a managing associate in the dispute resolution team, based in Jersey. He specialises in contentious and non-contentious trusts work and commercial litigation (including shareholder disputes and fraud and asset tracing) and restructuring and insolvency. 

Background and experience

Matthew moved to Jersey in 2015 and joined Ogier in 2016. He is an experienced advocate who regularly appears in court for contested interlocutory and substantive hearings and applications. He was recognised as an “associate to watch” by Chambers and a “key lawyer” by Legal 500 in 2025.  

Matthew regularly works on commercial litigation matters including claims against directors and trustees for breaches of duty. He successfully appeared before the Royal Court in Halabi v Farrow & Ors [2025] JRC169 and [2025] JRC326 where he obtained (and upheld on appeal) strike out and summary judgment in respect of multi-million euro claims brought against former directors of a private trust company.

Having twice featured on ePrivateClient’s Top 35 under 35 list, Matthew also regularly advises trustees and beneficiaries in contentious and non-contentious matters, including in the context of applications for the blessing of momentous decisions, applications to vary the terms of trusts, and applications to set aside the exercise of powers on the grounds of mistake.  

Matthew also has a breadth of experience in other commercial litigation matters, including but not limited to: 

• shareholder disputes (including unfair prejudice petitions) 

• breach of duty (contract, tortious and fiduciary) 

• commercial fraud 

• enforcement and recognition of foreign judgments
