Ogier's "first class service" stands out in Chambers 2021

With top tier rankings across a number of its main service lines in Jersey and excellent feedback from clients of both its Jersey and Guernsey offices, Ogier has had another strong year in the recently released Chambers UK Directory.

Jersey's Corporate and Finance, Dispute Resolution, Property and Trusts teams are all ranked in the top tier with a number of leading lawyers in each team individually ranked. In Guernsey, there was also individual success for Trusts team Managing Associate Chris Hards who is newly ranked as an Associate to Watch.

Global Managing Partner Edward Mackereth said: "The feedback that we have focuses not only on our technical know-how but our outstanding client service and approachability. All our teams work exceptionally hard to put the client at the centre of everything that we do so it is heartening to see that reflected back to us."

In Jersey, the Dispute Resolution team with three ranked lawyers, including Edward Mackereth, is described as "very responsive, sensible, thoughtful, and … always willing to go the extra mile". Partner and team leader Nick Williams is praised as "a skilled advocate" with "good strategic sense" and Partner Damian Evans is noted as "ultra-responsive and thoughtful".

Described as "fantastic and exceptional to work with" the Jersey Corporate and Finance teams are also noted for being reliable, prompt and with "keen understanding of what is most important to clients and very accommodating of challenging and tight deadlines." Five of the partners in the Corporate and Banking and Finance teams, Raulin Amy, Simon Dinning, Richard Daggett, Katrina Edge and Matthew Shaxson, are ranked. Responsiveness, commerciality and technical ability all feature in the individual feedback.

Once again, Ogier's Jersey Property team, led by Jonathan Hughes, is the only one in a Jersey firm to have ranked in the top tier. Jonathan is described as "efficient and good to deal with" and Counsel Katharine Marshall as "excellent; she is very responsive and provides clear advice" while colleague and consultant Chris Renouf "is one of the most experienced property lawyers on the island."

The "depth and breadth" across the Jersey Private Wealth team is praised alongside their "first-class service." Partners James Campbell, Sally Edwards and Steve Meiklejohn and head of employee incentives, private wealth, Katherine Neal are all ranked members of the team with approachability, good knowledge and client-focus all featuring in client feedback.

The Jersey Employment team is "professional, quick to respond and human in their responses" with the director of Local Legal Services Helen Ruelle noted for her "in-depth knowledge of the law and commercial approach" and Senior Associate Will Austin-Vautier described as "technically skilled, knowledgeable and experienced, with a strong grasp of his subject area."

Partners Niamh Lalor and Emily Haithwaite are ranked members of the Jersey Investment Funds team which received the following feedback: "A highly competent, professional and organised firm with a strong team of partners and associates who work cohesively together." Niamh is also praised as "very dedicated, she responds very quickly and has a great relationship with clients."

"Great market knowledge and presence…commercial and efficient" are the stand-out qualities of the Guernsey Corporate, Finance and Funds teams in Guernsey. Partner Bryon Rees is noted for being "resourceful, pragmatic, very strong technically and flexible."

Dispute Resolution in Guernsey "always go the extra mile to provide timely and well thought through advice" with ranked partners Simon Davies and Mathew Newman noted for their ability, commerciality and responsiveness. Likewise Property Partner Martyn Baudains is noted for commercial expertise in a team "large enough to cope with work levels, but not too big to lose their personal touch."

Newly ranked managing associate Chris Hards is a member of the "efficient" Trusts team and the "very strong commercial and private wealth team." Partner Gavin Ferguson is "a hugely personable and technically excellent lawyer" and Counsel Alice Bricogne "is technically gifted and very approachable."
