Ogier recognised in private equity Deal of the Year at Latin Lawyer Awards 2025

Ogier's Latin America practice was recognised at the Latin Lawyer Awards 2025 for its role in Compass Group's business combination with Nasdaq-listed Vinci Partners, which was named private equity Deal of the Year.

The high-profile transaction saw Compass, a leading asset management and investment advisory firm in Latin America, combine with Vinci Partners, a leading alternative investment platform in Brazil, to create a full-service Latin American alternative asset manager with more than US$50 billion in assets under management.

The Ogier team was led by partners Tim Cone, Angus Davison and Graeme Loarridge, supported by Jody Powery-Gilbert, Laura Sephton, Cornelia Zhu and Laura O'Byrne. They worked alongside US counsel Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, and Chilean counsel, Barros & Errázuriz Abogados, among other advisers.

"It's fantastic to be recognised alongside the other leading advisers on this transaction. This award underscores Ogier's strength in private equity and M&A, as well as our longstanding commitment to supporting Latin American clients in such a dynamic and evolving market," said Tim.

Latin Lawyer handed out 11 Deal of the Year awards at its 19th annual ceremony in São Paulo. In attendance to receive the award were members of Ogier's LatAm practice team – James Heinicke, partner, Thomas Sims, senior associate, and Thomaz Monteiro, head of client development for Latin America.

Ogier was also nominated for Deal of the Year in two other categories. For restructuring, Ogier advised Inversiones Latin America Power, a Chilean renewable energy generation company, on the completion of its Chapter 11 restructuring alongside Greenberg Traurig LLP, Barros Silva Varela & Vigil and Nelson Contador Abogados & Consultores in January 2024. In the banking and finance category, Ogier advised JP Morgan, HSBC, CACIB and Standard Chartered in connection with a US$800 million loan to fund farming micro, small and medium enterprises in Brazil's farming sector, alongside Norton Rose Fulbright and Pinheiro Neto Advogados in August 2024.

"It’s particularly remarkable to have deals recognised across three distinct categories, involving two of the most active markets in the region. The breadth of these transactions highlights the strength of our multi-disciplinary teams and the value a full-service offshore law firm like Ogier brings to clients, " said Thomaz.

"While we are already well-regarded in Latin America for investment funds and private wealth, this recognition in banking and finance, private equity and restructuring and insolvency further reflects the trust our clients place in us to navigate their most significant and complex matters."
